El reclutamiento y mantenimiento de potenciales docentes se ha vuelto un problema que afecta las políticas económicas, por sus implicaciones en el capital social. Esto ha sido estudiado desde diferentes perspectivas y cuestionado por distintos grupos de interés, así como la pertinencia entre priorizar entre cobertura o calidad. Este documento tiene como objetivo identificar las preferencias y percepciones de estudiantes que no optaron por la carrera docente, para dar cuenta de la apreciación que se tiene de dicha profesión, particularmente por aquellos que están comenzando su vida profesional. En la metodología se utiliza un análisis descriptivo y de escalamiento multidimensional para identificar las preferencias y percepciones de los encuestados. Los encuestados son estudiantes de primer ingreso en carreras diferentes a la profesión docente en una universidad acreditada por su alta calidad por el Ministerio de Educación Nacional en Colombia. Como resultado de la investigación se confirma que la preocupación por la realización personal y factores económicos-laborales inciden en la decisión. De esto se desprenden recomendaciones estratégicas para hacedores de política en cuanto a la necesidad de evaluar tanto aspectos económicos como sociales para atraer estudiantes a la carrera docente y, paralelamente, lograr que los que optan por esta profesión la finalicen y sean referentes para su entorno personal y laboral.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The quality of teaching has been a matter of debate, regardless of the degree of development of the countries in question. The recruitment and maintenance of potential teachers has become a problem that affects economic policies because of their implications with respect to social capital. The matter has been studied from different perspectives, by questioning different interest groups, as well as the relevance of prioritizing coverage or quality. The purpose of this document is to identify the preferences and perceptions of students who did not opt for a teaching career, but who can give an account of the appreciation of that profession, particularly those who are starting their professional life. As for the methodology, a descriptive and multidimensional scaling analysis is used to identify the preferences and perceptions of the respondents who are first-year students majoring in fields other than education at a university accredited by the Ministry of National Education in Colombia. The research confirms that concern about personal fulfillment and economic-labor factors affects decisions on whether or not to pursue a career in the teaching profession. This leads to strategic recommendations for policy-makers on the need to evaluate both economic and social aspects in order to attract students to a teaching career and, at the same time, to ensure that those who choose this profession continue in it and become personal and labor referents.]]></p></abstract>

A seleção e manutenção de potenciais docentes tornou-se um problema que afeta as políticas econômicas por usas implicações no capital social. Essa situação é estudada a partir de diferentes perspectivas e questionada por diferentes grupos de interesse, bem como a pertinência entre priorizar entre cobertura ou qualidade. Este documento tem como objetivo identificar as preferências e percepções de estudantes que não optaram pela docência para evidenciar a apreciação que se tem dessa profissão, particularmente por aqueles que estão começando sua vida profissional. Como metodologia, utiliza-se análise descritiva e de escalonamento multidimensional para identificar as preferências e percepções dos entrevistados. Estes são estudantes do primeiro período de cursos diferentes dos da profissão docente numa universidade reconhecida por sua alta qualidade pelo Ministério de Educação Nacional na Colômbia. Como resultado da pesquisa, confirma-se a preocupação pela realização pessoal, e os fatores econômicos e profissionais incidem na decisão. Disso, derivam-se recomendações estratégicas para quem faz política quanto à necessidade de avaliar tanto aspectos econômicos quanto sociais para atrair estudantes à profissão docente e, em paralelo, para conseguir que os que optam por ela a finalizem e sejam referentes em seu contexto pessoal e profissional.]]></p></abstract>
