Considerada como uno de los principales problemas que enfrenta la sociedad en este siglo, con un incremento de su incidencia a nivel mundial, por lo que se ha convertido en un problema de salud; debido a su crecimiento se ha considerado como una epidemia global, siendo considerada como globesidad en 2011 por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). La obesidad, junto con el síndrome metabólico, nos ayuda a describir 4 grupos de fenotipos; sin existir un consenso claro. Los grupos revisados incluyen obesos metabólicamente sanos, peso normal metabólicamente obeso, obesidad de peso normal y obesos sarcopénicos. El objetivo de esta revisión fue describir cada uno de los fenotipos metabólicos e identificar las patologías más comunes asociadas a cada uno de estos fenotipos; para ello se realizó una revisión narrativa de la bibliografía.  Conclusión: Este trabajo deja ver que no existen protocolos unificados para el diagnóstico de cada fenotipo de obesidad; asimismo, cada fenotipo tiene características particulares en cuanto a detección y presentación en la composición corporal, no obstante, se asocian al desarrollo inminente de síndrome metabólico, enfermedades cardiacas y diabetes tipo 2.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Obesity, a multifactorial disease caused by the alteration of the function of adipose tissue causing chronic and systematic inflammation. Considered as one of the main problems facing society in this century, with an increase in its worldwide incidence becoming a health problem, due to its growth, it has been considered as a global epidemic, named as globesity in 2011 by the World Health Organization (WHO). Obesity, together with metabolic syndrome, helps us to describe 4 groups of phenotypes without a clear consensus; the reviewed groups include metabolically healthy obese, meta-bolically obese normal weight, normal weight obesity and sarcopenic obese. The objective of this review was to describe each of the metabolic phenotypes and to identify the most common pathologies associated with each of these phenotypes by conducting a narrative review of the literature.  Conclusion: This work has shown that there are no unified protocols for the diagnosis of each phenotype of obesity, also, each phenotype has particular characteristics in terms of detection and presentation in body composition, however, they are associated with the imminent development of metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.]]></p></abstract>
