Los usuarios de sillas de ruedas desarrollan úlceras por presión debido a la presión prolongada entre zonas de prominencias óseas y el asiento. Se han diseñado plataformas de sensado del centro de presión para prevenir estas lesiones, pero su alto costo limita su accesibilidad.  Objetivo.  Calibrar y validar un prototipo de plataforma de bajo costo que registre la distribución del centro de presión a través de un protocolo de medición que analice la exactitud del sensor mediante repetibilidad y error de medición.  Métodos.  Se diseñó una plataforma con cuatro celdas de carga de 50kg interconectadas entre si. Se establecieron protocolos de calibración y validación utilizando masas patrón y evaluando repetibilidad y precisión mediante análisis de errores. Además, se diseñó un protocolo para estudiar variaciones del centro de presión al modificar la postura en la silla de ruedas. Finalmente, se realizó un estudio de casos para respaldar la validación de los sensores y la calibración.  Resultados.  La plataforma demostró ser precisa y confiable ya que los datos mostraron mediciones repetibles y exactas, con errores menores al 3,75%, lo cual demuestra una buena repetibilidad; además, su capacidad para estimar variaciones del centro de presión fue validada.  Conclusiones. Teniendo en cuenta las recomendaciones de organizaciones internacionales, la plataforma desarrollada en el presente estudio constituye una herramienta de bajo costo, portátil y con hardware y software asociados que puede contribuir significativamente a la prevención de las UPP.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction.  Wheelchair users develop pressure ulcers due to prolonged pressure between areas of bony prominence and the seat. Centers of pressure sensing platforms have been designed to prevent these injuries, but their high cost limits their accessibility.  Objective.  To calibrate and validate a prototype of a low-ost platform that records the distribution of the pressure center through a measurement protocol that analyzes the accuracy of the sensor through repeatability and measurement error.  Method.  A platform of four 50kg load cells interconnected with each other was designed. Calibration and validation protocols were established using standard masses and validating repeatability and precision through error analysis. In addition, a protocol was designed to study variations in the center of pressure when the posture in the wheelchair is modified. Finally, a case study was conducted to support the validation and calibration of the sensor.  Results.  The platform proved to be precise and reliable, as the data showed repeatable and accurate measurements, with errors less than 3.75%, demonstrating good repeatability. Furthermore, its ability to estimate variations in the center of pressure was validated.  Conclusions.  Taking into account the recommendations of international organizations, the platform developed in this study constitutes a low-cost tool with associated hardware and software that can significantly contribute to the prevention of pressure ulcers.]]></p></abstract>
