Abstract

MONTOYA, Rigoberto Gil. Barbarian Writings: Dangerous Relations between Vanguard Literature and the Beautification of Violence in Latin American Areas. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2018, n.20, pp.8-21. ISSN 2011-804X.

In this research paper we investigate, based on the fiction proposed by Bolaño in Distant Star, whether military man Carlos Wieder or, in his double identity, Alberto Ruiz-Tagle, was a revolutionary poet in his literary proposal, by exercising with it an extreme artistic avant-garde, in the face of the beginning of General Pinochet's military dictatorship (1973). We also investigate to what extent Bolaño questions the ambiguous place of some Latin American writers in the dictatorship, by rescaling their moral responsibility and moving them away from that comfortable place as victims and enlightened evaluators where writers are usually placed in society in the face of a violent reality.

Keywords : vanguard; military dictatorship; violence; aerial poetry.
