Abstract

MEDINA HERNANDEZ, Edith Johana  and  ORTIZ ALVARADO, Pedro Nel. What characterizes cell phone theft in Bogotá? Multidimensional analysis of complaints to the National Police in the period 2015-2018. Rev. logos cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.1, pp.19-35.  Epub Dec 13, 2020. ISSN 2145-594X.  https://doi.org/10.22335/rlct.v13i1.1225.

The theft of cell phones in Bogotá is a common problem and involves several factors that can be analyzed together, in order to design strategies to mitigate its impact on the population in Colombia's capital. This article analyzes reports of cell phone theft made to the National Police during the period 2015-2018 in order to characterize the victims of this crime in relation to theft hotspots. The results of the investigation were obtained by means of georeferencing tools and the techniques of principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clusters. The analysis focuses on putting forward suggestions to aid the planning of the National Police service, so that the conclusions correspond to preventive actions within three groups of police quadrants identified as 'of interest' from the quantitative analyses carried out.

Keywords : crime prevention; protection against theft; cell phone theft; data visualization; police.
