Abstract

BARRETO, DAVID. Lyric Exhaustion: A Critical Reading of Poetry in the Present Esgotamento lírico: uma leitura crítica da poesia no presente. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2024, vol.15, n.31, pp.118-134.  Epub Jan 30, 2024. ISSN 2145-8987.  https://doi.org/10.25025/perifrasis202415.31.07.

This article argues the thesis that we are in the midst of a radical shift in the lyrical paradigm of modernity. Through a critical examination of the poetry collection La flor del extérmino by Chilean writer Andrés Ajens and a polemic interpretation of the philosopher Alain Badiou's formula the age of poets, this essay defines the boundaries of lyrical exhaustion, which coincides with the decline of the grand narratives that structured modernity. The ultimate purpose is to provide clues to elucidate the new directions that poetry may be taking in the present.

Keywords : Modernity; lyric poetry; lyric exhaustion; Latin American poetry; contemporary poetry; Alain Badiou; Andrés Ajens.
