Abstract

ARRIETA COYOTL, Abraham Samuel  and  OROZCO VACA, María Leonor. The Influence of Narrative Gender and Background Function of Verbs in the Imperfect Indicativo in the Postverbal Position of Yo. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2023, n.83, pp.233-256.  Epub June 16, 2023. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n83a10.

This work analyzes the postverbal position of the pronoun yo. To do this, we consider four linguistic factors: coreference, verbal semantics, tma based on their discursive functions; and textual genre. The data comes from three corpus of speech from Mexico City. The results show that the postposition of yo is favored in the narrative genre and in verbs in the imperfect indicative. The foregoing analysis suggests that the postposition of yo has a background function in accordance with the backgrounded function of the indicative imperfect in narratives.

Keywords : pronominal subjects; singular first-person; postverbal yo; narrative; background.
