Abstract

CASTILLEJO-CUELLAR, Alejandro. Listening Differently. Orality and Sound in the Colombia’s Truth Commission Testimonial Volume. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2023, n.68, pp.21-52.  Epub Dec 11, 2023. ISSN 0121-5167.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.espo.n68a02.

Personal and collective testimonies were central to the work of Colombia’s Truth Commission when it set out to document the atrocities of the country’s long-running internal conflict. They served as a basis for analysis and to highlight certain patterns of violence laid out in its final report. But a new way of thinking about these first-person narratives led the testimonial tome to look beyond the details of the crimes to the impact that the violence had on people’s daily lives and the ways in which their life projects were derailed by it.

Keywords : Post-Conflict; Ethnography; Memory; Truth Commission; Orality; Sound; Colombia.
