Abstract

LOPEZ-CORTES, Óscar Andrés  and  ALPALA-MONTENEGRO, Luis. The 1923 earthquake in Cumbal (Colombia): Oral and written histories as tools of struggle for territory. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.2, pp.435-459.  Epub July 21, 2023. ISSN 0122-2066.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v28n2-2023016.

This article explores the way in which through the stories that are built on the name of a place, specific political intentions of struggle for the territory and the cultural survival of an indigenous people of the South American Andes are linked. Through the study, the relationship that exists between the territorial construction of the geographical limits of a state and its symbolic limits is evidenced; situation that allows us to see the deployment of physical and discursive territorial control strategies. It is concluded that in this field, history as a discipline plays a fundamental role that is not exempt from instrumentalizations.

Keywords : oral history; identity; pastos indigenous people; dispossession; struggle for territory..
