Abstract

VALENCIA C, Luz Ángela  and  ALVIAR R, Mauricio. A Regional General Equilibrium Model for Antioquia. Perf. de Coyunt. Econ. [online]. 2013, n.21, pp.105-137. ISSN 1657-4214.

This paper presents a theoretical general equilibrium model for Antioquia. The main idea is to build a model that shows that there is a productive process which demands intermediate inputs and factors that aggregate value. Their prices are determined by the interaction between its demand and its available quantity. In terms of social accounting the production process is the adding up of primary activities (primary production) and the secondary production of other activities or economic sectors. In addition, surpluses from commerce and transport as well as taxes to value added are considered. These surpluses affect the final price of goods and services in addition to imports from the rest of the country and the world which increase the total supply of goods. The framework of analysis is perfect competition where the markets clear at the equilibrium prices, there is perfect information and also economic agents are price takers. Despite the criticism of the general equilibrium models, they are still useful tools to understand the interactions among economic activities and the effects of price changes on the economy functioning, in this case, at the regional level

Keywords : Regional development; social accounting matrix; computable general equilibrium model.
