Abstract

HAFTER, Lea. Mistress or Slaves? Drifts of Lesbian Desire between Armando Bo and Manuel Puig. La Palabra [online]. 2023, n.45, e06.  Epub July 25, 2023. ISSN 0121-8530.  https://doi.org/10.19053/01218530.n45.2023.15058.

The following pages present a joint reading marked by lesbian desire of a passage from the film Fuego, directed by Armando Bo and released in 1969, and a fragment of the novel by Manuel Puig, Pubis angelical, published in 1979. Through the montage of images, it is proposed an approach to the construction of erotic relationships between female characters in light of the theoretical contributions of gender studies as well as practices and reflections from the archive, in order to unravel the inscriptions, meanings and scope in around the lesbian desire housed in the representations of each of the fictions. The purpose is to activate a critical listening to the dialogue that is established between both authors, to deploy in that gesture a space where unregulated identifications and identities are put into operation.

Keywords : Armando Bo; Manuel Puig; Fuego; Pubis Angelical; lesbian representations; Argentine cinema; Argentine literature.
