Abstract

MARQUEZ DIAZ, Sandra  and  PARDO MONTANO, Ana Melisa. From Measurement to Perception: Habitability Conditions in the Periphery of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. Territ. [online]. 2024, n.50, e3.  Epub Feb 29, 2024. ISSN 0123-8418.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/territorios/a.12247.

This research focuses about habitability, specifically the case of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. The dynamics within this area, which is made up by municipalities from three states, highlight the differences between Mexico City and the rest of municipalities in the conurbation, especially the disparities in equipment and access to services, among other characteristics. The main objective is to contrast some indicators that are used to measure habitability, with the perception of housing conditions and the space built. To this end, we chose the municipality of Ecatepec. We use data from the 2015 Intercensus Survey, as well as information collected through semi-structured interviews. We highlight the significance of considering not only quantitative factors to understand habitability, but also taking into account the perception of the population on this subject.

Keywords : Habitability; periphery; Mexico; perception; measurement.
