SIMANCA CASTILLO, Orielly. CATHOLIC CENSORSHIP OF CINEMA IN MEDELLIN: 1936-1955 A CHURCH PERSPECTIVE ON THE COMMUNICATIONS MEDIA. hist.crit. [online]. 2004, n.28, pp.81-104. ISSN 0121-1617.
In 1936 the hierarchy of the Catholic church initiated an organized cinema-moralization campaign that extended to all Catholic countries in order to counteract the moral dangers that the seventh art posed for the faithful. In Medellin (Colombia), this campaign was strengthened by the great power and legitimacy of the Catholic church enjoyed at that time. The censorship was structured between 1936 and 1955 in Medellin through the diffusion of moral propaganda, the creation of the Legión of Decency, and the Cinema and Morality Secretariate, the classification of films and the organization of movie theaters and a Catholic movie forum.
