JURADO, DAVID ANTONIO. COLOMBIAN INDIGENOUS FIRST-PERSON DOCUMENTARIES. Maguare [online]. 2021, vol.35, n.2, pp.197-224. Epub 23-Mar-2023. ISSN 0120-3045. https://doi.org/10.15446/mag.v35n2.98463.
Singular first-person indigenous audiovisual is a controversial category that goes against the grain of indigenous audiovisual groups' collective political ideology in Colombia. However, there are exceptions: Documentaries that address or emerge of rural- to-urban migration. Both cultural shock and the individualism that pervades the cities give rise to conflicting indigenous subjectivities that do not cease to have strong connections to primordial traditions. Drawing from a corpus of three representative short films and guided by a historical, narrative, and ideological approach, I analyze different facets of this phenomenon. After a period of audiovisual media appropriation, first-person documentaries may indicate a new, more intimate period in the history of indigenous audiovisuals in Colombia.
