Objective: to recognize and understand cultural practices and meanings related to seismic risk management of a community that has lived different situations of this kind in the city of Manizales, Caldas. Methodology: is a qualitative research, based on micro-ethnography and qualitative analysis, assuming that these type of research focuses in a analysis on the historical and cultural context of communities. Results: cultural practices related to risk management are creations with meaning since a particular model of cultural internalization about the seismic phenomenon. This process is supported in the community, learning from family values and moral conventions adopted it for an ideology of prevention and survival, that is legitimate for the community. On the other hand, the non-symbolic appropriation of knowledge of technical-scientific situation creates community resistance to the appropriation of new content, because they don’t feel a real respect and inclusion of their cultural Conclusion: that risk management is not just to reducing the risk, it necessary to understand the social understanding of cultural practices, behaviors and lifestyles (including ideologies and perspectives of the world, of life, of religion), in social terms, it requires the participation of various strata and sectors of interest representative groups, and thus recognize how risk management is built collectively as a culture of good habits
