GUERRERO APRAEZ, Víctor. The Irruption of "Political Theology" in the Weimar Republicand Contemporary Repercussions. Pap.polit. [online]. 2008, vol.13, n.2, pp.431-448. ISSN 0122-4409.
So called Political Theology originated and developed in the seminal works of Carl Schmitt and Walter Benjamin during the tumultuous period of the WeimarRepublic. Under dramatic circumstances, both authors developed a defiant and original approach to the political and legal problems faced by the first democratic regime set up in Germany , through which the question of the theological foundation and its implications for the theory and practice of Politics arose in an unexpected way. The radically opposed positions adopted by Benjamin and Schmitt, demanding messianic Revolution and exceptional Counterrevolution, have exerted a rich and polemic influence in a broad set of the most influential political thinkers of the last century and the new millennium. Political Theologies are currently a vigorous academic field and are also part of the discipline of political studies. This essay explores the reasons for this new trend and the challenges it poses for Politics as well as its contribution to the perspective of the victims.
