RAMEY, James. BAKHTIN AND THE SPATIAL TURN: INTERTEXTUALITY, MODERNISM, PARASITISM. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.2, pp.69-95. ISSN 0123-5931.

This article intersects with diverse debates in literary studies in order to analyze the spatial or geographic aspect of intertextuality, specifically the centripetal and centrifugal forces of national languages theorized by Bakhtin. It proposes that the various modernist movements emerge from what Bakhtin calls the centrifugal or heteroglot force within national languages, and it concludes that such modernist movements are themselves parasitic entities that transcend national consciousness in order to replicate themselves across time and space. The article includes discussion of works by Stephen Greenblatt, John Brenkman, J. Hillis Miller and Benedict Anderson.
