VILLALOBOS FONSECA, Hazel. Technological Development in Police Matters: A Successful Recipe for Crime Prevention. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2020, vol.15, n.1, pp.79-97.  Epub 21-Ago-2020. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.4243.

Latin America is one of the most violent regions in the world and, therefore, its police forces face great challenges to reduce, control, and prevent crime and violent acts. However, in recent years, technological innovation has supported countries such as Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and Uruguay in this task. Integrated information systems, big data analysis, geographic information systems, facial recognition cameras, integrated command centers, drones, among others, are some of the technology and artificial intelligence developments that police bodies have used to improve police action in crime prevention. This research summarizes the contributions of 13 Latin American experts and 24 officers holding senior and middle management positions in the Costa Rica civil police regarding the importance of technological innovation in police strategies, mainly in this Central American country. In addition, it brings forward a proposal for a critical procedure to manage technological innovation within this police body, which facilitates technological integration and interconnection in the Costa Rica Public Force and takes into consideration good practices of Latin American police strategies based on technological innovation.
