ADUR, Lucas Martín. THE MOTHER OF THE BOOK. USES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE KORAN IN THE WORK OF JORGE LUIS BORGES. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2022, n.81, pp.387-405. Epub 23-Feb-2023. ISSN 0120-5587. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n81a18.
We address the influence of the Koran on Jorge Luis Borges’ work. We begin with a brief state of affairs on the studies of Borges and the Orient, especially those concerning Islam. Next, we characterize the use of the Islamic sacred text by the Argentine writer as irreverent, with a literary purpose. Then, we systematize the functions of the Koran in the Borgian work. Finally, we consider that the main purpose of the Koran for Borges is to be a perfect example of the absolute and eternal text, from which he defines his writings and, above all, a reading poetic.
