PALMAS CASTREJON, Yanelli Daniela; FRANCO BRAVO, Azeneth Irazú; LOPEZ ZAPATA, Ledys Vianey  e  GIRALDO VELASQUEZ, Claudia María. Complex Systems and Tourism: Application of the Harmonic Tourism Model in Two Locations in Latin American Countries. Cuad. Geogr. Rev. Colomb. Geogr. [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.2, pp.354-372. ISSN 0121-215X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rcdg.v29n2.79570.

This article presents a theoretical analysis of the paradigm of complex systems for the study of tourism and addresses the complexity through the models of it. Based on a review, the proposed objective relied on performing a differentiated diagnosis in two locations: Santa Fe de Antioquia (Colombia) and Malinalco (Mexico). The harmonic tourism methodology (HTM) was used to achieve this objective since this arises from the theoretical discussion and incorporation of sustainability attributes to explain tourism as part of a complex system. Hence, from each of the aforementioned localities emerged the characterization of the system, based on the variables included in the HTM. The main results are the analysis of the similarities between the two localities and a strong evolution of the tourist activity; an element that affects local development and that has led to discussions on the methodology and application of the concepts in practicality.

Main ideas: Research article that analyzes the attributes of sustainability as part of the complex system, to generate a characterization that considers the variables of the harmonic tourism model (HTM) in two localities: Santa Fe de Antioquia, Colombia and Malinalco, Mexico. The obtained results show similarities between the two localities and an evolution of the tourist activity.

Palavras-chave : Latin America; local development; complex systems; harmonic tourism.
