The national heritage is composed of elements and events that are in constant danger. Despite being included in the official list of the declared assets, you can not assume, wrongly, that this ensures its preservation. The Colombian society has a responsibility of preserving it, with no excuses, for the generations to come, because, as highlighted by the national legislation, although it is an individual and collective right to enjoy this heritage, it is also the duty of all to ensure their conservation since any impairment suffered by the components of this heritage alters, inevitably, the cultural riches that we share as our own. After reviewing the fundamentals that constitute the historical and cultural richness of the property in question, herein we present the case of the chapel of La Enea, a cultural good of national interest and character that recently was partially destroyed and, despite of the recovery works undertaken, it has lost some of the values that originally held, unfortunately irrecoverable. Presenting this situation it is expected to provoke discussions related to the actual focus of the measures used in the heritage preservation and whether these are actually preventive, and wonders if they are adequate enough to rematerialize an element which, however, will never be the same.
