VALENCIA-AGUDELO, Germán Darío  e  CUARTAS-CELIS, Deiman. Trajectory of Studies on Social Capital in Latin America. Ens. Econ. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.57, pp.98-119.  Epub 15-Abr-2021. ISSN 0121-117X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ede.v30n57.82502.

Since the 1990s, a growing interest in studying social capital has developed in Latin America, among academics and policy makers. This compound concept, now turned into theory, defends solidarity, trust and cooperation, among other values, as determinants of the economic and social development of nations. The article shows the trajectory of this theory in Latin America, both in academic research and in public policy. It describes the context in which interest in social capital in Latin America arose; presents the dynamics of work on this capital in the region; and identifies the work agendas that have been configured in recent decades in the social sciences on this important economic asset.
