CID HIDALGO, Juan D.. Lareo: Museum, Memory, Déjà vu. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.1, pp.225-252. ISSN 0123-5931. https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v21n1.74817.
The paper examines the image of the museum in a novella by Chilean writer José Donoso. Naturaleza muerta con cachimba (StillLife with Pipe, 1990) allows us to study and understand how the memorial nature of museum practice resignifies not only the objects housed in museums, but also statements, discourses, and even artistic practices, which unfold in such a way that they become a system. Marcos Ruíz's déjà vu experiences in the Larco Museum are especially important in the story since they trigger the character's remarkable transformation. The erstwhile ignorant and traditional cultural manager becomes a gallant, forward-looking art critic, whose "overstuffed cat face with that ridiculous little moustache" is now that of a famous curator and protector of the legacy of a unique and unknown artist.
