OROBIO, ARMANDO; PORTOCARRERO, LUZ MERY  e  SERNA, LILIANA. EVALUATION OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE AS DUST CONTROL AGENT IN UNSURFACED ROADWAYS. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2007, vol.74, n.153, pp.27-33. ISSN 0012-7353.

The dust generated by vehicles on unsurfaced roadways produces negative impacts to human populations and nearby facilities. These roadways deteriorate easily and need periodic interventions to keep them in acceptable conditions. The purpose of this project is the evaluation of the efficiency of Calcium Chloride as stabilizing agent of unsurfaced roadways. This study was focused on Colombian agribusiness sector that uses “trenes cañeros” a large and heavy vehicle. Both a roadway test section and a roadway control section were constructed, the first one stabilized with Calcium Chloride and the second one without the stabilizing product. Both sections were evaluated for 6 months with measurements of dust emissions produced by a controlled vehicle traveling at 40 KPH. Results of both sections were compared and the results show a high efficiency of the Calcium Chloride as dust control agent in unsurfaced roadways.
