PENA BALLESTEROS, DARIO YESID; VASQUEZ QUINTERO, CUSTODIO  e  ESTUPINAN DURAN, HUGO. CORROSION OF PARTS OF VEHICLES MANUFACTURED WITH BRASS AND BRASS EXPOSED BIOETHANOL-GASOLINE BLENDS. Rev. ion [online]. 2011, vol.24, n.1, pp.43-52. ISSN 0120-100X.

In recent decades, there have been many research on the use of ethanol as a biofuel, where several secondary effects were detected, including corrosion processes on parts exposed to bioethanol-gasoline blend. This study examines the corrosion phenomena occurring when brass and bronze materials commonly found in vehicle parts were exposed to the blends. The research was conducted by static immersion tests of ethanol-gasoline blends at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 100% v of bioethanol and a temperature of 25°C. The corrosion behavior was evaluated using the method of weight loss and electrochemical techniques, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and Tafel curves. The stability of the layers formed during the exposure time and its influence on the corrosion rate were determined and calculated.

Palavras-chave : EIS; corrosion rate; biofuel; electrochemical.
