This article reviews previous research that describes and analyzes conversational exchanges between teachers and students that promote the learning of vocabulary at different levels of schooling: kindergarten, elementary and secondary school. Also, this article explores studies dealing with the relationship between vocabulary and literacy and the impact of certain pedagogical strategies in word learning in kindergarten and elementary school
