NARANJO A., ABEL  e  SOTO J., CARLOS M.. EFFECT OF THE GEOMECHANICAL PARAMETERS ON THE HYDRAULIC FRACTURING OF STRESS-SENSITIVE HYDROCARBON RESERVOIRS. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2007, n.21, pp.09-22. ISSN 0120-3630.

In order to build a successful model of the hydraulic fracturing treatment, the theory suggests that it is necessary to couple the behavior of the rock with the behavior of the fluid. This article analyzes the effect of the Geomechanical properties on the hydraulic fracturing of stress-sensitive hydrocarbon reservoirs. A numerical simulator was developed to simulate the hydraulic fracturing in three dimensions using a finite differences approach, and coupling the flow of fluids and the Geomechanical deformation of the rock. The model considers two different physical domains, the reservoir or inner domain in which occurs flow of fluids and Geomechanical deformation and; the surroundings which are the outer domain where occurs only Geomechanical deformation. The faulting criteria that were implemented are: Criterion by tension and the Mohr Coulomb's shear criteria. In order to study the effect of the different Geomechanical parameters the factorial analysis method is used. The results highlight the effect of the Poisson ratio and the interaction between the Poisson ratio and the Total Compressibility, due to their influence in the hydraulic fracture for the range of the used data. The results also illustrate possible effects on the geometry of fracture in three dimensions, what is not possible with commercial simulators.
