Abstract

VELEZ-LATORRE, Libia  and  MANJARRES-CARRIZALEZ, Dora. The Education of Subjects with Disabilities in Colombia: Historical, Theoretical and Research Approaches in the Global and Latin American Context. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2020, n.78, pp.253-298. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num78-9902.

This review article presents the search and reflection on historical, theoretical, and research references in the field of education of subjects with disabilities in Colombia, within the framework of the global and Latin American contexts. For this review, the authors selected, systematized, and analyzed 76 documentary sources that cover the 1984-2018 period. The findings of the study let us suggest a structural analysis framework from three historical moments that highlight the education of people with disabilities in Colombia: special education, school integration, and inclusive education. These are developed from three cross-cutting issues: context, subjects, and actors' responsibility. The research results allow describing and sustaining the educational processes of people with disabilities in Colombia, from a historical, theoretical, and research perspective identifying convergence and difference issues with the global and Latin American contexts.

Keywords : disability identification; special education; inclusion.
