Abstract
MONCADA MESA, Jhonny and HINCAPIE VELEZ, David. Convergence of the Quality of Life in Medellin 2004-2011. A Spatial Nonparametric Analysis. Ens. polit. econ. [online]. 2013, vol.31, n.spe70, pp.267-314. ISSN 0120-4483.
This paper aims to determine whether there is convergence in quality of life for the comunas and corregimientos of Medellin for the period 2004-2011. To achieve this, the authors performed a nonparametric analysis for the estimation of the stochastic Kernel functions; besides, Markov chains were used for the construction of the classic and the spatial Markov transition probability matrices, thus concluding that there is convergence in quality of life measured by the Quality of Life Indicator. In addition to this, the work includes a specific component analysis of the indicator in order to point out the distinctive aspects of every comuna or corregimiento. Finally, the findings were contrasted with the spatial matrices though the construction of the local Moran transition probability matrix, inferring that there is positive spatial correlation in the life quality of the spatial units and that of their neighbors.
