Abstract

JIMENEZ MORALES, Luis Alberto. Moral Presuppositions in the Hobbesian State of Nature. Prax. filos. [online]. 2023, n.57, e20612378.  Epub July 28, 2023. ISSN 0120-4688.  https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i57.12378.

The objective of this article is to carry out a review of the state of the question on the concept of the state of nature in the thought of Thomas Hobbes. This revision allows to articulate an understanding of human nature, since unlike political realism the state of nature in Hobbes does not have a merely hypothetical role. Precisely, the idea of human nature articulates a proto-morality that allows us to understand the transition to civil status. The Kavka, Gauthier and Hampton investigations have built a complex understanding of human nature, which allows us to understand a certain substratum of proto-morality in Hobbesian thought.

Keywords : State of nature; Rationality; Civil State; Peace; Natural Laws.
