Abstract
RODRIGUEZ, Javier et al. Cardiothoracic fractal measurements in thoracic x-rays. Rev. Col. Cardiol. [online]. 2005, vol.12, n.3, pp.129-134. ISSN 0120-5633.
Fractal geometry measures in a proper way the irregular forms of nature. For this reason, we must use it in order to obtain an objective mathematical description of the thoracic cavitys irregularity. By means of the box counting method, fractal dimensions of defined objects of 20 thoracic X-rays from healthy individuals were measured. 10 were men and 10 were women, between 18 and 32 years. A comparison was made between the first and the second significant cipher among the fractal dimensions of the three defined objects. The fractal dimensions of the radiographies evaluated with the first significant cipher turned out to be different or equal in the three evaluated objects or equal for two of the three fractal objects, while in the second significant cipher these were different in the three fractal objects at the same time; besides, the biggest maximal difference between the islands values were of three tenths. Posterior radiological studies of patients with different pathologies will allow realizing a generalization of the technology developed for its clinical application.
