Abstract

HERRERA ANGEL, Marta. HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY, TIME AND SPACE. hist.crit. [online]. 2004, n.27, pp.169-185. ISSN 0121-1617.

This article analyzes the way in which geography and history have been related in practice. The article uses the author's field experience, in which she was not only an observer but a participant as well, of its raw material in different academic scenarios. Said situation presents both advantages and disadvantages. It is a question of first-hand experience but one that has not been programmed as a research activity; it was instead simply a life experience. Therefore, the information was not collected systematically, nor in relation to a relatively defined topic or specific research problem. The exercise involved almost the opposite type: it attempts to recapitulate data about a concrete life experience in order to systematize it, at least partially, and to use it to discuss a specific topic and problem.

Keywords : geography; history; colony; settlement.
