Abstract

PONS, Anaclet. SAVE AS: HISTORY AND DIGITAL SOURCES. hist.crit. [online]. 2011, n.43, pp.38-61. ISSN 0121-1617.

This article analyzes the changes that the discipline of history is experiencing in the digital world. In particular, it focuses on the digitalization of primary sources. On the one hand, the article examines the implications of digitalizing old written documents. On the other, it points towards the meaning of sources considered to be "born digital." This essay summarizes some of the different attitudes that historians have had regarding these changes and underlines the need to pay attention to their criticisms. But it also indicates other aspects that we should study. Summing up, the article argues that there is a challenge implicit in digital history that historians need to reflect upon.

Keywords : History; sources; archives; digitalization.
