GUZMAN M, Carlos Enrique e RAMIREZ B, Adriana M. The Colombian elector. An approach to the voter's profile of the main political parties in presidential elections, 2002-2010. Investig. desarro. [online]. 2015, vol.23, n.1, pp.165-198. ISSN 0121-3261. https://doi.org/10.14482/indes.22.2.6615.
In the study of voting behavior, although the sociological, partisan, and rational choice theories continue to be applied vigorously in order to investigate the factors that predominate in making the decision to vote, a response is yet to be found that achieves academic consensus. Thus, this study aims to identify the profile of the Colombian voter in the presidential elections of 2002, 2006 and 2010 throughout the similarities and differences in terms of political sophistication, party-political orientation and sociodemographic characteristics. Statistical analysis was performed using LAPOP survey data, focusing on the voters of the Liberal Democratic Party of Polo and the National Unity Party. In the first part of the paper the main theoretical aspects guiding the research are raised; then, the main features of the context in which the three elections were held are shown. Finally, the results of the analysis are presented as well as some concluding ideas.
