Abstract

HURTADO PRIETO, Jimena. LA TEORÍA DEL VALOR DE ADAM SMITH: LA CUESTIÓN DE LOS PRECIOS NATURALES Y SUS INTERPRETACIONES. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.38, pp.15-45. ISSN 0121-4772.

This article presents a critical analysis of the existing interpretations of Adam Smith's theory of natural prices. New readings of Smith's work provide a fresh analysis of the author, but fail in solving one of the great questions regarding his economic theory: the question of natural prices. Interpreting and determining these prices has been subject to debate since An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations was published in 1776. Smith does not seem to give a definitive answer to the problem. This has led to different interpretations of his theory of value which, whilst leading to a more systematic and complete view of Smith's work, hardly contribute in solving the problem of natural prices. The problem regarding the determination of natural prices thus prevails.

Keywords : Adam Smith; natural prices; theory of value ..
