Abstract

SALAMA, Pierre. LA VIOLENCIA LATINOAMERICANA VISTA POR LOS ECONOMISTAS. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.38, pp.179-198. ISSN 0121-4772.

This article synthesizes recently published economic studies regarding violence in Latin-América and analyses those causes tending to augment it: poverty, inequality of levels and variation of income, impunity, difference between the probability of being arrested and the severity of the imposed penalty and narcotrafficking. However, this explanation of violence is not limited to economic factors, as the author favours an approach inspired by anthropology and sociology.

Keywords : violence; Latin America; rational behaviours; social inequalities; guerrilla; traffic of drugs; multiple equilibrium.
