DA SILVA GUEVARA, Gisela. Beyond Sovereignty. The Amazon and the Geopolitics of Invisibility, Emphasis on Colombia and Brazil. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2023, n.67, pp.28-54.  Epub 04-Out-2023. ISSN 0121-5167.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.espo.n67a02.

This article aims to analyze the implications of the formation of stigmatizing imaginaries and visions fed from the centers of power, especially in Colombia and Brazil, regarding the scope to include Amazonian spaces in the formation of the nation. Political and social imaginaries have led, to this day, to identify such spaces with notions of underdevelopment that distort the true richness of the contributions from these regions and their inhabitants. Starting from the notions from Cathrine Brun (2019) regarding invisibility and peripheralization, I seek to demonstrate that the stigmatizing visions from the centers of power in Colombia and Brazil with the consequent policies carried out in the Amazonian spaces to bring what is considered the “development”, far from allowing the insertion of these spaces in the respective nations, have distanced them from them.

Palavras-chave : Critical Geopolitics; Sovereignty; Invisibility; Peripheralization; Stigmatization; Amazon.
