Abstract Currently there are significant research on the preparation of bioabsorbable porous membranes that allow the controlled release of drugs and vitamins. In this study it was proposed to prepare porous membranes from polycaprolactone (PCL) and chitosan (CS) under the electrospinning technique, applying different parameters in order to evaluate its internal characteristics and properties for a potential application as liberator of thiamine hydrochloride (vitamin B1). Besides studying the in vitro release kinetics developed TC with membranes prepared. A polymer membrane was obtained from a solution of PCL/CS w/w (8:1) and PCL/CS w/w (10:1) with a load of TC regarding PCL w/w (20:1) dissolved in TFA/DCM v/v (80:20), with lows defects such as bulbs and uniform diameters. The fibers were characterized with support techniques of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), contact angle (Hydrophilicity of the fibers), mechanical testing of the membranes in study, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The release of active substance is performed in a buffered saline by phosphates (PBS buffer) over 37°C and pH = 7.4. The release kinetics was analyzed by plotting cumulative data versus time. This system was able to release from 65% to 85% thiamine hydrochloride in a 60 h, approximately, which shows the potential of these membranes to effectively release vitamin B1.
