This text is about a research experience based on the work with the Direct Action Centre for Peace and Memory and the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, placed in South Africa. Through a series of ethnographic vignettes one can learn the way in which a former African National Congress combatant gives meaning of the world, through language articulation. The question unfolds on the space constituted in this configuration and the problems the researcher faces when trying to understand it.
