Abstract

PALSSON, Gisli. BIOSOCIAL RELATIONS OF PRODUCTION. Nómadas [online]. 2015, n.42, pp.89-109. ISSN 0121-7550.

Based on Marx this article argues that the reality of biosociality -the fusion of biological and social matters through modern biotechnology-, dissolves the concept of the biosocial as the complementarity of the spheres of biology and society. It suggests that the notion of biosocial relations of production can be helpful in order to grasp the new hierarchies and articulations of the social and the biological in the reproduction of life. It concludes by stating that life is remodeling itself, and so demands new kinds of concepts, politics and ethics, like the ones opened by the category biosociality.

Keywords : biosociality; biosocial relations of production; biotechnology; capitalism; Marx.
