Abstract

JARAMILLO MARIN, Jefferson; LONDONO ORTIZ, Natalia  and  SANCHEZ GONZALEZ, Gina. Sugar Cane Agrobussiness and Traditional Farm in the Northern Plains of Cauca (Colombia). Historical Perspectives and Ethnographic Notes. Mem. Soc. [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.39, pp.30-47. ISSN 0122-5197.  https://doi.org/10.11144/Javeriana.mys19-39.aaft.

This article reflects in an historical and etnographic key about some of the frictions and links between sugar cain agrobussiness and traditional farm in the northern plains of Cauca, since the mid xx century to the date. The historical perspective allows to trace the consolidation of the sugar cain agroindustrial model. The etnographic approach, describes from the inhabitants narratives some of the socio enviromental conflicts wich are generated by this model in the traditional farm. Both keys reveal how certain resources and natures are governed and intervened by multiple actors and logics. The article is a parcial result of the field work developed in some hamlets of the Villarrica and Padilla municipalities between june and august of 2013 and april and june of 2014. Also from the revision of specialized literature about socioenviromental conflicts from the political ecology approach.

Keywords : sugar cane agribusiness; finca traditional; north of Cauca; political ecology; socio-environmental conflicts.
