Abstract
ARISTIZABAL, Juanita Cristina. LITERARY THEOLOGY IN FERNANDO VALLEJO'S EL DESBARRANCADERO. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.1, pp.93-119. ISSN 0123-5931.
This paper focuses on the echoes of modernism in Fernando Vallejo's El desbarrancadero (2001). This novel's dialogue with Rubén Darío and Vargas Vila underscores the affinity between Vallejo's writing and the discourses that shaped cultural production in Latin America and Europe at the turn of the twentieth century, including those on national identity, symbolism, religion and the death of God and the sacralization of poetry. The paper deals with the shape taken by these discourses in Vallejo's writing a century later.
Keywords : Fernando Vallejo; José María Vargas Vila; Latin-American modernism; nation and literature; religion and literature.
