Abstract

TRUJILLO MONTON, Patricia. MAGICIAN, COLLECTOR, SPOILSPORT: THE FUNCTIONS OF POETRY IN JUAN MANUEL ROCA. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.1, pp.183-207. ISSN 0123-5931.

This paper explores some of the metaphors used to describe the poet and poetry in the work of Juan Manuel Roca from 1990 up until today. These metaphors allow us to reflect on the function of poetry, and the problems involved in writing it today. Each poem proposes a different solution, and the whole creates a constellation of possibilities, sometimes complementary, sometimes contradictory, which underscore the precarious and problematic, and yet necessary, character of poetry at the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first.

Keywords : Colombian poetry; function of poetry; image of the poet; Juan Manuel Roca; modern poetry; writing.
