Abstract

DIACONU, Diana. ÁLVARO ENRIGUE'S THE CEMETERY OF CHAIRS AND THE TRAPS OF AMERICANIST DISCOURSE. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp.113-126. ISSN 0123-5931.

On the basis of an axiological and textual analysis of Álvaro Enrigue's novel The Cemetery of Chairs (2002), this article proposes to investigate a position-taking (Bourdieu) in the field of Hispanoamerican literature today. How does the Mexican author's proposal dialogue with the ideologem "mestizo América"? And how does it fit into the history of Americanist discourse, from a revisionist position? The paper aims to answer these questions without neglecting the specific power of the novel as a delicious parody, both of the search for the true Latin American identity through a return to its origins, and of literary and extra-literary discourses which address this issue obsessively, claims the author.

Keywords : Álvaro Enrigue; The Cemetery of Chairs; Hispanoamerican novel; position; ideologem "mestizo America"; Americanist discourse.
