Abstract

FUENTES RETAMAL, Pablo. Aniceto Hevia's Indelible Stain: Determinism and Its Overcoming in Manuel Rojas' Narrative Tetralogy. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.1, pp.171-206. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v17n1.48693.

The article studies the catalyzers or narrative details in Manuel Rojas' narrative tetralogy: Hijo de ladrón (1951), Mejor que el vino (1958), Sombras contra el muro (1964), and La oscura vida radiante (1971). Rojas' narrator uses the trivial details of the narration to destabilize the determinist perspective that links their protagonist, Aniceto Hevia, to criminality. Thus, the catalyzers act as discursive strategies that allow Rojas' narrative to break away from a positivistic legacy.

Keywords : Manuel Rojas; catalyzers; details; descriptions; narrative tetralogy; determinism.
