Abstract
ESCOBAR, Juan David. Carlos Rincón's Avant-garde Cultural and Literary Criticism. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.2, pp.267-285. ISSN 0123-5931. https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v21n2.78665.
The article provides a critical commentary of the evolution of Carlos Rincón's work between 1978 and 1999, a period in which the author passes from a literary reading mode to a culturalist one. It argues that, despite this shift, the Colombian cultural critic always remained loyal to the following principles: 1) the interpretation of any cultural object depends on the historical and social circumstances in which it is inscribed and read; 2) cultural objects operate on real life; therefore, the relation between text and world is one of continuity and interpenetration, rather than of exclusion; 3) every literary text is a palimpsest, for which reason it bears the traces of a tradition that is recoded. The review is carried out on the basis of a reflection on Carlos Rincón's position in some of the most important epistemological debates of the last decades of the 20th century.
