Abstract

TAGLIARI, Ana  and  FLORIO, Wilson. Ramp design in the architecture of Vilanova Artigas. Rev. Arquit. (Bogotá) [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.2, pp.47-59.  Epub Jan 23, 2024. ISSN 1657-0308.  https://doi.org/10.14718/revarq.2023.25.4562.

Vilanova Artigas designed many buildings with ramps. Thus, the question arose: What is the role of the ramp in the architect's design strategies? In order to identify the fundamental concepts that guided the architect's actions, the criteria for selecting the object of study were projects with ramps produced between the 1940s and 1980s. In the first phase, the projects and texts written by the architect were studied. In the second, the projects were analyzed graphically. In the third, the concepts were identified, and the classification was performed. The analysis procedures were redesign, building cuts, ramp enhancement, and diagramming. The classification was done using comparison tables. The results show that the ramps contributed to defining the organization of the architectural program for the creation of a unique, fluid, and continuous space, representing the visual and spatial continuity of modern architecture.

Keywords : architectural program, circulation spaces, design strategy diagram; unbuilt project.
