Abstract

NIGLIO, Olimpia  and  VALENCIA MINA, William. Seismic risk reduction for architectural heritage. A comparison between experiences from Colombia and Japan. Apuntes [online]. 2014, vol.27, n.1, pp.106-123. ISSN 1657-9763.  https://doi.org/10.11144/Javeriana.APC27-1.rrsp.

Seismic risk is a problem in many countries, especially in Latin America, the Middle East and the Far East, particularly Japan. From the analysis of seismicity and built heritage in Japan and Colombia, this article presents the first results of a comparative research between the two countries, the different methods of intervention and management to protect the architectural heritage, which is important to reduce their vulnerability. This paper also presents some thoughts on the legal regulations and techniques j both in Japan and in Colombia for the safeguarding of built cultural heritage in areas with a significant level of seismic hazard and their prevention strategies.
