Abstract
BETANCUR GUIRALES, Yuliana; BUILES BRAND, Manuel and MILLAN ANGEL, Álvaro. VARIATION OF THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ALLOPHANE CLAY IN COLOMBIA VARYING THEIR SATURATION DEGREE. Rev.EIA.Esc.Ing.Antioq [online]. 2013, n.20, pp.173-181. ISSN 1794-1237.
Volcanic eruptions can destroy the ecosystems around them; producing ash that covers everything in its path. However, these ashes devastating originate some of the most productive and complex soils of the world. Under the purpose of knowing the properties and behavior of these soils under natural conditions, this study shows how through laboratory tests, the variation was associated constant over time the degree of saturation of the soil, with its strength parameters. Soil samples taken from the city of Pereira, were taken to the failure to obtain the shear strength parameters. The results obtained are evidence of a trend of variation of cohesion with the variation in the degree of saturation. Alternative causes for this behavior of the soil are discussed, and their application in engineering optimization task in these soils.
Keywords : Volcanic Ash; Saturation; Shear Strength.
