Descartes is considered the first modern philosopher. If modernity is interpreted in the way decolonial thought or liberation philosophy interpret it, we would have to redefine the 16th century and the philosophers of that century as the origin of modern philosophy, and not Descartes. Furthermore, Descartes was alum of the 16th century Spanish philosophers, against what is believed. The anti-discourse of modernity does not surge in the illustration, but rather at the beginning of the conquest process. Thus we have to completely reevaluate the philosophical history of modernity. Lastly, the most radical critique of modernity has to be looked for among those that suffered it, such as Guamán Poma de Ayala in Peru.
